<p>I already have an e-book, a Sony PRS 500 that I bought at least 4 or 5 years ago, but this model is unable to read epub books which seems to be the standard these days and also is also unable to connect with Windows 7, so it&#8217;s now become a paper weight collecting dust on my desk</p>
<p>I bought the Sony PRS T1 as it has a touch screen rather than just buttons to turn the pages, the nearest competitor here in France is the Kindle (it can&#8217;t read epub books), and the touch screen version hasn&#8217;t arrived yet in France yet, the Nook is USA only, there are other models around but I found them of no interest to me.</p>
<p>Unwrapping the PRS T1 finds a nice looking reader, I bought the white one (it comes in white, red or black) I had read a couple of critics concerning the black version showing  up finger marks on the plastic frame,.</p>
<p>The frame as I said is plastic, rather than metal on the old PRS 500, not quite as nice but it&#8217;s OK, the ebooks sits nicely in one hand as it&#8217;s very light, 168 gms, the screen is very clear and pages are a joy to read, turning the pages are great, just a quick swipe of a thumb or finger on the screen and the pages turns all on its own, or of course you can use the physical buttons.</p>
<p>Its comes with two books installed, these are of little interest as they have fallen into the public domain and you have probably already read them.</p>
<p>I have an account with the Sony reader store because of the PRS 500, so once I found my password I reconnected, updated my account details and was ready to buy / download a book. For info the Sony site in France and other European countries is not up and running yet, they seem to be late in doing this, so I logged to the .com giving them a USA address, as I tend to still read in English this obviously is fine for me, but obviously not for a French person looking to read in his native language.</p>
<p>Using the wi-fi connexion with the T1, is easy and straight forward to set up, though it&#8217;s a little slow, but as you not using all the time, this is no big hassle, so I logged on to the reader site, found the book that I was looking for and downloaded it directly to the e-book, this is fast, probably taking about a minute or two in all, you can do this via the PC as well but I wanted to test the wi-fi download speed</p>
<p>The T1 is like the older PRS 500, you read, you turn it off, you come back, it remembers where you were, and if need be to you can mark the page so that you can switch books, come back to the older one and find the book mark, this is simple and works well.</p>
<p>Because of the touch screen you can highlight words that you don&#8217;t understand and look up them up in the dictionary, or look them up on Wikipedia, the dictionary works well, and there are many to choose from, English , American etc. Wikipedia works fine, but anything that is linked to the web is rather slow because  the wi-fi needs to reconnect (to save the  battery this disconnects after a pre-set time) web pages are quite slow in showing, this is of little interest to me so I rarely use it, I&#8217;ve read that most ebooks are slow when it concerns using the web, after all it&#8217;s not a tablet.</p>
<p>The Sony reader software for the PC works OK, as I have very few ebooks so far I&#8217;m unable to test it with many books, but so far so good, it lets you connect to their site to choose and download books via the PC if you prefer, again I haven&#8217;t really used it much, but the first test and the book that I downloaded worked fine.</p>
<p>There is a lot of talk about a free software called Calibre, I have downloaded it and am trying it, its seems to be very useful as you can use it to look for books and it will find all the sites that sell the ebook that you are looking for and show you the cheapest and also the version of the download, epub, kindle, nook etc, this is useful as certain sites sell the same e-book but double the price, so this is really useful and  I reckon that this can and will replace the Sony PC software in time.</p>
<p>When connecting the PRS T1 to the PC reader software by USB you will get a message tell you if there is a firmware update available, installing it is a piece of cake, just follow the on-screen instructions, the latest at the time of writing this is xxx.11140, which can be downloaded from <a href="http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=PRST1BC&amp;template_id=1&amp;region_id=1&amp;tab=download#/downloadTab" target="_blank">http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=PRST1BC&amp;template_id=1®ion_id=1&amp;tab=download#/downloadTab</a></p>
<p>The firmware update improved the flickering when connection to web sites, though there is still to much of this, but again I don&#8217;t use this reader to go online except to buy a e-book, so again I can live with this, and other bugs like most software updates.</p>
<p>For the moment here are my first thoughts on the T1 reader, I like it, it&#8217;s light, easy to use, typically Sony which is sexy and built well, so far so good</p>

<p>Parcours de 20, 30, 40 &amp; 56 kms. Lolo un ami a pété son genou avec un accident de VTT  il y a peine six mois, donc nous avons décidé à faire que le 40 km pour voir comment son genou aller supporter sur le parcours et le retour sur son vélo.</p>
<p>Brouillard ce dimanche matin (un brouillard a l&#8217;Anglaise, a &#8216;real pea soup&#8217;) en plus  il ne faisait pas très chaud, je n&#8217;ai pas encore l&#8217;habitude à mettre les vêtements chauds, donc j’avais froid..</p>
<p>Une randonnée prévue pour environ 600 personnes, nous étions apparemment plus que mille &#8230;.. il en avait du monde ce matin-là &#8230;.</p>
<p>Un parcours bien, des single à gogo, une fois après les premiers 5 km, les petites bosses sans arrêt, rien de technique, rien de méchant, mais avec autant de monde de mal on a parfois doubler les gens, surtout dans les portions étroites, bien roulant (Martial la fait sur son VTT singlespeed, donc rien de trop raid, seulement une ou deux bosses ou il était obligé de monté à pied) voir trop, pas mal des single, peu de boulevards, pas de route)</p>
<p>Un seul ravito (deux pour les 56kms), tout à fait correct, une bonne ambiance, une randonnée comme j&#8217;aime, même si techniquement c&#8217;est un peu léger, avec environ 700m de dénivelé</p>
<p>Finalement un bon parcours, sans prétention, similaire à celle de St-Germain en Laye, à refaire</p>
<p>Voilà la trace de 40 km pour ceux qui souhaitent le faire ou refaire, nous l&#8217;avons faits cool, en 2h 30mins,  les 40 km peuvent être faits dans les 2 h à peine</p>

<p>C&#8217;est la première fois que je fais cette randonnée à Auvers, pourtant ce n&#8217;est pas loin de chez moi.</p>
<p><strong>Dimanche matin</strong>, 8 h départ d&#8217;Hédouville avec Martial et Emeric en VTT, pour aller à Auvers pour un départ prévu 8 h 30, froid, très froid, gelé blanche et 1° (30° la semaine dernière a Fréjus, j&#8217;avais du mal &#8230;..) enfin, nous sommes arrivés pour trouver la bande de copains habituels.</p>
<p>Beaucoup de monde, je ne savais pas qu’il aurait autant de monde pour cette rando.</p>
<p>La rando et tranquille, soit 25km, soit 40km, soit 50km, en réalité c&#8217;est une rando facile, pour toute la famille, il n’y a pas de technique, pas de cotes, pas de grosses descends, avec très peu de route, les chemins étaient propre et super sec (en période de pluie ou hiver cela saura une autre histoire), la plupart des chemins, je les connaissais bien, encore plus agréable.</p>
<p>Ravitos, tout à fait correct, et fléchage correct aussi, mon seul critique, quelques passages ou il fallait traversé les routes, j&#8217;aurais préféré quelqu&#8217;un pour gérer la trafique, on ne sait jamais sur les routes de compagne, même s’ils sont très calmes habituellement.  Enfin &#8230;</p>
<p>Donc une rando facile , rapide, avec le soleil qui à pointé sa tête vers le 10 h, plus le terrain sec, c&#8217;était sympa et bien agréable.</p>
<p>51.80 pour 758m de dénivelé, nous l’avons fait en 2h41mins, avec un moyen de 19.3 (le départ était très, très slow à cause du froid, mais la fin était rapide)</p>
<p>Plus mes allez retours à Hédouville, une petite journée de 73km, it&#8217;s good for the legs</p>
<p>A refaire, car le circuit hors qu’il n&#8217;est pas technique est très bien pour l&#8217;entrainement</p>

<p>PS : Comme vous pouvez constater, je ne suis pas français, donc il y a des fautes partout, je suis désolé, pour ceux qui ont le courage vous pouvez me mettre quelque corrections, ‘pas le post entier’ dans la boite de commentaire ci-dessous pour que je les corrige par la suite, je ne les prends pas mal, même au contraire</p>

Je me trouve à Golfe-Juan, environ 30 km de Fréjus</span></span></span></p>

<p>Demain, lundi je vais tester le terrain à Fréjus.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Day 1, lundi :</span></span></span></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;"> 30 degrés 45kms et 900 mètres de dénivelés, hard, very hard, avec la chaleur. Comme d&#8217;habitude j&#8217;ai démarré à partir du parking sur la base de Fréjus,<br />
</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;">Le terrain est très sec, pas de &#8216;grip&#8217; les pneus lâchent facilement, quelque nouveaux chemins cette année, certain trop technique pour moi, je me trouve comme d&#8217;habitude à les descends à pied. Par contre certaines &#8216;grimpettes&#8217; je trouve plus faciles, suis-je en meilleur forme ?</span></p>

<p>Je n&#8217;ai fait que le parcours jusqu&#8217;au Col de Bougnon puis je suis entré par la route, demain je ferai le parcours à partir du camping jusqu’à la fin de parcours</p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;"> Day 2, mardi :</span></span></span></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;"> J&#8217;ai démarré à partir du camping, qui se trouve juste après le descend du fournel, car depuis ce matin nous louons un mobile home pour la semaine.<br />
</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;">J&#8217;ai démarré ver 11 h, il faisait déjà chaud, j&#8217;ai fait une partie du parcours, fléché vert (tout n&#8217;était pas fléché), c&#8217;est le parcours Masters Roc, une grosse descend raid et technique au milieu puis le reste ce n&#8217;était pas trop difficile. Je suis arrivé vers la fin, à environ 10 kms de la base et donc j&#8217;ai commencé le départ comme pour la veille, pour atteint à nouveau le camping, faisant le parcours presque complet, mais avec un mélange de parcours de cette année et l&#8217;années précédents. Je suis arrivé vers 14 h avec 32kms au compteur et 1064 m de dénivelé,</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Day 3, mercredi :</span></span></span></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;"> Mes amis sont arrivés, nous avons fait le parcours de la course de vendredi a venir, Masters Roc, plus l’aller-retour vers la base, le total 68km et encore 1150 m de dénivelé.<br />
</span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;">Le parcours est plus dur que les années précédentes, dès le début. Il y a une sacrée &#8216;grimpette&#8217; au niveau de centre de ski nautique, le reste après c&#8217;est plus au moins la même chose, jusqu&#8217;au vers la fin ou c&#8217;est réellement changer, une descend en zigzag dans les arbres, hard et pas fun, puis une monté en single au départ à pied, puis en vélo, super fun, puis la mer, avec la plage et le chemin de douaniers.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Une journée bien remplie avec une baignade dans la mer à la fin, puis quelque bières, super.</span><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:xx-small;"><br />

<p><strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Day 5, vendredi, la course Master Roc </span></span></span></strong><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;"><span style="font-size:small;"><strong>:</strong> pour du vrai, la journée démarre avec un très fort mistral, ça souffle, le vent est d&#8217;environ 100 km l&#8217;heure et elle faite froid, dans le box pour le départ, la chair de poule, le parcours le même que mercredi sauf la bosse au départ, que était changer pour quelque chose plus soft, je l&#8217;ai fini en 3 h 10, 5 minutes de plus que l&#8217;année précédente, mais avec le vent et la course qui était bien plus difficile, je ne suis pas déçu, et ma place était nettement mieux, 228e dans ma catégorie, et 417 en général (environ 1900 coureurs au total), contre 293 et 603e en 2010.</span></span></span></p>

<p><strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;">Au total, de lundi au samedi, j&#8217;ai fait 304 km pour plus que 6500 m de dénivelés, donc une bonne semaine de vélo, et avec un bronzage, mais de VTTiste bien sûr&#8230;..</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;"> Comme les années précédentes, j&#8217;ai utilisé le Rocky Mountain Element pour ces parcours.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman', serif;font-size:small;">Le Roc pour moi est la fin d&#8217;une saison de VTT, c&#8217;est le meilleur moyen d’en finir avec le soleil, la mer, l’ambiance,  les compétiteurs (environ 16 000) les VTT et les VTTistes partout, les chemins différents de ma région.  Il me reste que 500 km à faire cette année pour atteint mon objectif de 5000kms <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  </span></strong></p>

<h4><span style="color:#008000;"><strong>Paper notebooks : Moleskine, Leuchtturm1917, fountain pens : Lamy2000 pens, Ink in a bottle</strong></span> &#8211; I&#8217;m crazy</h4>
<p>I think that I can class myself as a techno geek, I rely  heavily on computers or electronics devices, I tend to buy most gadgets that are around, though mainly if I feel them useful, the latest GPS for my bikes, a new phone about every six months, in fact I&#8217;m writing this on my Motorola Milestone 2 and am awaiting for the Milestone 3  to com available here in France. Probably the next gadget shall be a tablet though not as a iPad as I don&#8217;t like Apple, and the upcoming Androids will be far better, just like the Milestone 2 that I have.</p>
<p>So anyway the other day I needed to buy a very small notepad for when I&#8217;m out and about looking for  a geocache and need to write something down, OK I could use the phone but as the battery life on the phone is rather short, the less I use the better., try running a couple of geocaches in the stick running non stop the compass and the GPS satellite and you &#8216;ll know what I mean.</p>
<p>So there I was looking for a notebook, I&#8217;m a difficult/ choosy bugger at the best of times, so of course a cheapo any old notebook is not my style. So checking all the models I came across two  very small notebooks made by Moleskine which seemed rather nice at just the right size, 6 x 10 cm, just right at the time for noting GPS position, cache details etc.</p>
<p>So I bought this notebook or rather these as they are sold in pairs, Each Moleskine notebook includes a short history of the legendary Moleskine notebook found inserted inside the back cover of the book, one was open so I read the documentation, this helped me to buy then as I found it very  interesting, The cost was around 7 euros I think.</p>

<p>What pleased me about Moleskines straight away was the quality of the fabrication, the paper that is acid free, the ribbon that is used as a book mark and I loved the expandable inner pocket in the back cover that can used to keep/hide slips of paper even a credit car though for me I have a wallet for that, simplicity, also not to forget the leather cover and the elastic band that hold its closed. Quality has to be the word describing these notebooks.</p>
<p>After buying these Moleskines and reading up about the name, the history the buzz around it,  and other details on  forums, even if some of the posts are rather dated, and seeing that many a few people are tweeting about Mileskines ( how strange tweeting about paper notebooks, a contradiction, no ? ) I went out a bought a second model, this time the pocket size 9 x 14 cm, <a href="http://minty95.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/ligned-notebook.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1587 alignright" title="Moleskine Lined notebook" src="http://minty95.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/ligned-notebook.jpg?w=150&#038;h=86" alt="" width="150" height="86" /></a>to see if writing in a note book was my style or rather that I could / would use.</p>
<p>Not for a blog as WordPress for that is just perfect, not as an agenda as Google agenda and Memotoo.com do this just fine and course they are synchronised with my phone.</p>
<p>I just wanted to see whether in this day and age and with 53 years behind me I and all the gadgets that I own would I use pen and paper, I feel as if I&#8217;m taking a step back into the stone age</p>
<p>I mentioned a pen, I also bought or rather ordered a Moleskine pencil as they have a model (pen and pencil) which is rather clever as the clip on the cap can be clipped to the edge of the notebook (sideways)<img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1586 alignleft" title="Cap" src="http://minty95.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/cap.jpg?w=150&#038;h=150" alt="" width="150" height="150" /> ,  the reason I like this is I find it difficult to have a notebook and a pen or pencil that is just clipped with a horrible clip to the topor just just lying around at the bottom of my bag, OK this paragraph make me sound a bit like &#8216;Rainman&#8217;, but I admit I can be slightly complicated.</p>
<p>So back to the first notebook, I added a couple of printouts from my printer, for instance for the moment I getting some new biking clothes designed and made for myself and my team mates, so after each change I cut them out and glue them to the pages, scrapbooking &#8230;&#8230; also I&#8217;m started to write little things down, &#8220;picked up xx from the airport&#8221; or &#8220;started writing probably the biggest page in my blog that nobody will read &#8230;&#8221; nothing of importance but I admit I always have things floating around in my head, so why not try to jot them down.</p>
<p>At the same time I&#8217;m writing down the things to do, OK I have that on my phone and on my computers, but I never use them as they just don&#8217;t work for me.</p>
<p>More time spent on the forums and I came across and an article or rather a couple concerning GTD (getting things done) planning using pens and paper, like tasks I tried  many planners in the past either on my phones or computers and again, never have I found one the works for me, so these articles were at least worth reading.</p>
<p>So I have just bought some more Moleskines ( now my wife is laughing at me) , all the same size pocket-size as they can be slipped into a back jean pocket. 1 with lines, 1 with blank pages, 1 with squares rather than lines.  This one I&#8217;m going to try using it a planner for my work, using some of the ideas taken from the above finds on the forums. I will try to post how and if later.</p>
<p>So I have now about four of these notebooks, a couple of pages have already been filled, dribble, useful (if so only to me but what the hell, when I pick up these notebooks I feel good, maybe it reminds me of a first day at school, though god only knows I didn&#8217;t go much, and what I do feel which is very strange is how to start writing on such clean virgin pages, really weird.</p>
<p>I came across after spending some time on their site a  travel Moleskine notebook, the one that I purchased is for New York, <a href="http://www.moleskine.com/moleskinecity/cities/new_york.php" target="_blank">http://www.moleskine.com/moleskinecity/cities/new_york.php</a> the travel notebooks I think are great, it didn&#8217;t take me long to realise that they could be very useful and make  make great presents, they have maps, underground guide, useful phone numbers, addresses and such and many other details that may be needed when on holiday somewhere. Now when I&#8217;m away from home in France I often use Yelp or Tripadvisor to find a good pub or restaurant, but the problem when in a foreign country data on the smartphones costs an arm and a leg, and free wi-fi is never available when you need it, so this travel notebook will be filled with many details that may need when we go to NY late this year and of course before I go.</p>
<p>Brilliant marketing, a fad, a two-week craze who knows, this blog page which I have  nicknamed &#8220;Analog&#8221; about these note-books which are distracting and soothing, I mean / want to try it/them, who knows &#8230;.</p>
<p><strong>Update</strong> : though the moleskine pencil in its form/shape is perfect, with a side fixing clip, the lead for me is to soft, it&#8217;s a 2b, so I&#8217;ve ordered their pen, which has the same form, now waiting for the delivery.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m still awaiting the pens from Moleskine, <strong>update</strong> received the, very nice, write Ok, (these are for when I&#8217;m about and about and don&#8217;t want to carry my Lamy) so I bought some Faber-Castell PITT artist pens S, these are very fine tips 0.3 and am using them on my second moleskine for the time being though they will have to lie at the bottom of my bag <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>They are rather nice though and bought 4 different colours, I&#8217;ve also ordered a Lamy2000 fountain pen (all the critics are very could) so does that mean that are not critics but &#8230;&#8230;..</p>
<p>At work I use a fountain pen to sign all documents and cheques, etc.  (I&#8217;m the boss) so I&#8217;ve ordered a Lamy2000  for another notebook that I am going to use for my projects here at work, this notebook will stay at work most of the time so clipping it to it will not be a problem.</p>
<p>The Lamy 2000 has arrived and I must admit its completely different from my Parker sonnet, it is so smooth it&#8217;s unbelievable, it just slides over the paper, I wanted some Shaeffer blue-black ink to go with it but the shop got the order wrong and delivered black Lamy ink, but TBH it&#8217;s fine. the tip is the M size and it&#8217;s a little on the large size as I tend to write badly and smallish so I might change it for a F or VF size.</p>
<p>I bought this pen after reading so many good things about it on the forums, the photo pleased me and when receiving it I was not disappointed , it holds just right in the hand and feels just perfect posted or not posted, I love the Bauhaus look and feel.</p>
<p>I am continuing with this analog craze of mine, I bought some more notebooks yesterday except that I purchased two Leuchtturm1917 a small and a medium size, that have a couple of differences that seem to make them  better, why seem, well I haven&#8217;t had the chance to test them yet. The paper is slightly thicker as its 80 gms against 70 gms for the moleskines, They have labels / stickers with them for archiving them nicely, the ages are numbered, this is nice in the medium size as I use it for planning / projects for my work, have started a GTD system afer reading many articles and so far so good</p>
<p>I also bought some ink yesterday as am awaiting a second Lamy2000 to arrive with a finer nib, I went mad and bought some Iroshizuku ink (now I have a notebook and ink with unpronounceable names &#8230; ) this ink cost me an arm &amp; a leg as it&#8217;s over 30€ the bottle.</p>
<p>I also bought some J. Herbin ink to try, I bought the famous &#8216;Violette Pensée&#8217; as this is a colour known to most French people (of a certain age) who used it at school, surprise when I showed it to my wife, &#8220;I want some&#8221; she said, So I going to have to buy her a pen as well &#8230;..<strong></strong></p>

<p><strong>I&#8217;m using four different notebooks now :</strong></p>
<p>Small reporter notebook, this one is when I&#8217;m geocaching and need to scribble GPS coordinates down clues to find the next cache and such like. (<strong>update</strong> : used when out doing geocaching)</p>
<p>Small lined notebook, this I&#8217;m already writing one to two pages per day, anything and nothing, not dates or  meetings as these are on my agenda on my phone, just ideas / thoughts that may be useful at a later date  (<strong>update</strong> : used all the time, but mostly when at home)</p>
<p>Medium size squared paper, this is for work, ideas, planning, projects; Am working on a slightly modified GTD system, will when finished I&#8217;ll add details.  (<strong>update</strong> : used at work or in meetings)</p>
<p>Small blank page carnet, I&#8217;m &#8216;scrap booking&#8217; images in this one , not sure if it will be continued but my wife laughs when she sees me gluing images in it, so when she laughs I&#8217;m happy UHU &#8230;&#8230;..  (<strong>update</strong> : used rarely, will not re-buy)</p>
<p><strong>Update :</strong>  The Lamy2000 VF has arrived and is being used with Kon-Peki ink, a nice not to dark blue colour that cost me a arm and a leg, The M sized Lamy I gave to my wife with the Herbin violet ink, which she apparently using at work)</p>
<p>I also gave to one of my boys a Lamy Nexx pen, it&#8217;s cheap and cheerful and to the other boy a TWSBI diamond 540, this is rather nice, all see through and it write&#8217;s nicely, All in all I&#8217;ve bought 5 pens and still only have one for myself,.</p>
<p>I need to buy another as I write at work in the medium squared notebook when in meetings or for projects and I write quite a lot though mostly in the evening at home in the small lined notebook,  The medium size is a Leuchtturm1917 and when I finish the small Moleskine that I&#8217;m using, it will be a Leuchtturm1917 as well, the build quality is just slighty better, and the pages are numbered which helps. or at least when I need to check info on another page.</p>
<p>What is amusing is the marketing around these books, check twitter with Moleskine, its alive with tweets, check with Leuchtturm1917 and theres is nothing and yet TBH they are (to me anyway)  the same, both just notebooks, both coming from smallish but  decent company&#8217;s that aren&#8217;t multi national &#8230; <strong>MARKETING</strong></p>
<p>I find that after years of not writing (just typing) hard too put things to paper, its strange to actually write and not just type even if the end result is the same.</p>
<p><strong>example</strong><strong>:</strong> I updated the bios on my MB, and so had written &#8220;updated my bios&#8221;, &#8220;ram setting to XXX&#8221;, etc. a week later crashed the system and of course couldn&#8217;t find the ram settings to reset them, so I just flipped back some pages and found the settings that I written down, OK I could have written these down in Evernote (which I use as well) but one the computer was down and two, it&#8217;s not normally the sort of details that I take time to : open the program, find the section that I&#8217;m going to use and then type it in, the notebook just sits on the table next to me in the sitting room and just gets jotted in when I think of something.</p>
<p><strong>Update January 2012</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;m still using my notebooks, for work I use a medium size Moleskine for taking notes, this is just perfect. I use a one ligne index to point me to the main page and then just jot down the things I need, if I run out of space I then go to the next free page, and and this page number is written down the previous page used. It works well.</p>
<p>For my private notes I use a Leuchtturm1917 small notebook, <a href="http://www.leuchtturm1917.de/" target="_blank">http://www.leuchtturm1917.de/</a> olive&#8217;ish green colour, I find the build quality better than the previous and my first Moleskine (which I&#8217;ve filled up since the start of this article)</p>
<p>I write something down nearly every day, &#8220;went to the gym&#8221;, &#8220;diner at so and so&#8217;s&#8221;, &#8220;doctor&#8221; etc. mostly rubbish of no interest to any one, not even my wife, at the end of the book, I have a small index, with a one to three words max and the page number, so for instance when I wrote down, visit to the doctor : for an ear infection : and the treatment I received, on the index page, &#8220;Doctor &#8211;  ears, page xx&#8221;, simple and effective.</p>
<p>As for the pen the Lamy200 extra fine is just perfect and I&#8217;m still using the Kon-Peki ink as I love the colour.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Avec Cyril, nous avons fait le circuit VTT #8, à partir de Saillans dans le Drome.</p>
<p>Le circuit est classé noir, de 42 km de long avec un dénivelé de 1100 mètres</p>
<p>Le circuit est assez bien fléché, mais parfois il faut bien regarder pour les voir.</p>
<p>Le circuit démarre par la route pendant quelque kilomètres, puis ça enchaine sur les chemins assez larges dans les collines.</p>
<p>Pendant 9 kilomètres ça grimpe avec un dénivelé d&#8217;environ 550 mètres, c&#8217;est dur, puis ça fatigue dès le départ en plus s’il fait chaud &#8230;.</p>
<p>La plupart de ce parcours se fait sur les grands chemins, en pierre, et un peu de route, heuresment il y a quelque single tracks en forêt, en plus avec un terrain sec, avec les roches ou les pierres, ces singles sont superbes, assez technique, car très étroit, un régal.</p>
<p>Le parcours était donné pour 6 h 30 sur les fiches que n&#8217;avons eu, mais nous l&#8217;avons fait en 3 h 45 plus 45mins de pause.</p>
<p>En pur technique, ce n&#8217;est pas trop difficile, mais le parcours est bien fatiguant, avec des vus magnifiques, un très bonne ballade à faire.</p>
<p>J&#8217;ai utilisé le Rocky Mountain pour cette ballade, avec un Rocket Ron avant et un Racing Ralph derrière,  les deux en tubeless ready, 2:10, parfait pour ce terrain.</p>

<p>Nous avons donc démarré avec le seul tracé fléché, circuit #1, après peu de temps nous avons eu le choix de prendre le #1 vert, ou le #2 bleu avec un espère de trouver quelque chose un peu plus costeau.</p>
<p>Finalement ce chemin est devenu de quelque chose plutôt très costeau, un grand chemin qui monter sans cesse.</p>
<p>900 mètres de dénivelé et 13 km plus tard&#8230;. Nous avons pris plus de 1 heure pour le terminer, aucun break, aucune partie plat, que du monté sans cesse, techniquement rien de trop dur, mais physiquement très très dur.</p>
<p>La descente s’est faite tranquillement, pas trop compliquée, avec peu de passages bien techniques</p>
<p>Un parcours bien fatiguant, techniquement je ne donnerai que 3 sur 10, mais coté physique 7 sur 10, au total 50 km et nous avons pris 4 heures.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Très similaire à l&#8217;année précédente, le parcours était très bien, pas mal de singles en forêt, peu de descentes et rien de technique,  beaucoup de grimpettes &#8230;&#8230;  et certain bien costeau, très peu de route, très peu de grosses allées. Personnellement, j&#8217;ai trouvé que cette année le parcours bien plus dure que 2010.</p>
<p>Le terrain parfois était bien humide et bien collant, qui est le rendu le terrain plus difficile cette année, aussi certain parties, surtout dans les singles éteints bien cassants, comme de la tôle ondulée,</p>
<p>Des ravitos corrects, quatre au total, le soleil était trop au rendez-vous, le rendant cette fois-ci plus difficile avec 30° il a fait chaud, très chaud.</p>
<p>Malheureusement cette année en plus d&#8217;une crève, j&#8217;avais décidé à prendre le hardtail Van Nicholas au lieu du full suspension Rocky Mountain, quelle erreur.</p>
<p>Au contraire de l&#8217;année 201. J&#8217;ai trouvé le parcours difficile et il faut admet que j&#8217;ai eu du mal à finir. En plus deux crampes aux mollets, en règle général j&#8217;en ai jamais, je l&#8217;ai fait en 6 h 27 avec 26mins d’arrêt, le même temps que l&#8217;année dernière (avec 300 m de dénivelés en moins). Je suis en meilleur forme cette année, j&#8217;aurai dû le faire en 6 h 15 environ. . (Demain je vais chez le médecin pour une dose d’antibiotiques, pour me débarrasser de cette crève.)</p>
<p>Un bon parcours, avec une organisation quasi parfaite, l’inscription est un peu chère, car à 14 € et que surtout qu’à la fin il n&#8217;a même pas un sandwich ni un coca.</p>
<p><strong>Bémol</strong> : Par contre pour le stand CFDT, j&#8217;estime qu’ils ne sont pas leur place à un rendez-vous sportive, et surtout si on ne remplissait pas leur bulletin (pour récupérer sans doute votre adresse et/ou e-mail) on n&#8217;avait pas droit à la tombola, <strong>c&#8217;est petit</strong>.</p>
<p>Attention un parcours pour ceux qui ont la condition, même s’il n&#8217;y rien de trop technique. Au total 105 km avec environ 1600 m de dénivelés (300m moins que l&#8217;année dernière)</p>

<p>Ce parcours est long de 63km et avec un dénivelé d’environ 2000 m.</p>
<p>Ce parcours est peut-être le parcours le  plus dur que je n’ai jamais fait, le terrain n&#8217;a pas aidé non plus, car il avait plu la semaine précédant et certaines parties étaient bien humides et parfois bien glissantes.</p>
<p>Le départ s’est fait à partir du Centre Cyclotouriste « Les 4 vents » à Aubusson d&#8217;Auvergne.</p>
<p>Le parcours est réellement génial, pas trop technique, mais pas si simple non plus, surtout avec des montés sans fin, les belles descentes, les singles en forêt,  un parcours VTT quasi parfait, malheureusement le terrain n&#8217;était pas très sec, qui à rendu un peu plus difficile.</p>
<p>Nous avons pris 5 h 30 pour le faire plus une pause de 90mins, pour déjeuner, ceci n&#8217;est pas un parcours pour les débutants, car avec les dénivelés, il faut un certain niveau et surtout, une certaine forme.</p>
<p>Nous étions un groupe de dix pour le faire, tout seul ou à deux ou trois il peut être fait un peu plus vite.</p>
<p>Je fais ce parcours avec mon Element 70 : Rocky Mountain. Je voulais un peu de confort pour mes fesses et dos, avec autant des heures sur la selle. Le deux jours suivant, nous avons fait deux sorties de plus 75 km et 40 km, les deux ensembles avec encore environ 2000 m de dénivelés&#8230;&#8230;..</p>

<p>J’avais fait la même rando les deux dernières années.</p>
<p>Nettement mieux que les années précédentes, toujours aussi roulant, mais avec plus de petits chemins, même si les singles étaient presque absent, pas de technique, une seule réelle grimpette, le terrain sec comme si c’était le mois d’août. Attention certains passages contiennent pas mal de silex, pas mal de crevaisons, tubeless ou non tubeless, prévoir un chambre à air en ‘rab’.</p>
<p>Premier ravito à 35km un peu loin, et relativement pauvre, morceaux de gâteau, carré de chocolat, les oranges et de l’eau ou sirop, mais à 5€ l’inscription ce n’était pas très grave, j’ai même vu quelqu’un râler auprès des bénévoles, “le ravito c’est trop loin, il y a des gens qui ont décroché, car c’est trop loin blah blah blah”, la prochaine fois soit il emmène une barre dans son camelbak soit il reste dans son lit au chaud, 35km sans un ravito n’est pas le fin du monde.</p>
<p>Un bon parcours, au final, très simple, même trop simple et très roulant, à faire avec les amis, avec parfois des beaux paysages, simple, mais correct.</p>
<p>67KM au total avec un dénivelé de plus de 734m, vitesse moyenne 20.1 (nous avons bien roulé)</p>

<p>Me voilà cette fois-ci avec dès amis faits en 2010 pendant la rando Limousin 2010 :  <a href="http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/raid-limousin-2010/">http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/raid-limousin-2010/</a>cette année au lieu de re faire la rando Limousin nous avons décidé à faire le GTL, Grande Traversée du Limousin, 3 jours du VTT avec un esprit très similaire de la rando Limousin.</p>
<p>Le GTL est à la fois une course, avec classement, mais peut aussi être fait en randonnée, pour ceux qui ne souhaitent pas à faire la course, le duré est de 3 jours, les parcours sont identique pour la course ou randonnée.</p>
<p><strong>First day</strong> :  le départ était de Saint Sulpice-Laurière, pour terminer à Guéret. 56km avec 1414 de dénivelé, le départ était très dur, 15km de singles et /ou petits chemins avec pas mal de dénivelés. Entre les 20km et 40km c&#8217;était relativement roulant, avec pas mal de route,  les derniers 15km à nouveau avec pas mal de dénivelé et en forêt.</p>

<p><strong>Second day</strong> :  le départ de Guéret avec un parcours de 70kms pour finir à Aubusson, 1440 de dénivelé, peu de route cette fois-ci, encore beaucoup des singles et les chemins en forêt, un très bon parcours</p>
<p><strong>Third day : </strong>le départ d’Aubusson, pour finir a la ville de la première journée, Saint Sulpice-Laurière : 60kms avec 1255 de dénivelés, cette fois-ci trop de route, mais avec parfois les singles superbes et/ou les chemins en forêt.</p>
<p>Pendant les trois jours, rien de trop technique, ni de trop difficile, les singles et petits chemins en forêt, avec parfois les descentes superbes et bien étendues les grimpettes, nous avons eu de la chance, il n&#8217;avait pas plu, le terrien était parfait, le paysage très beau, un régal.</p>
<p>Une organisation sans faille, les bénévoles super gentilles, un fléchage parfait, rien n’a dire, ou plutôt rien à critiqué <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While I was at the Roc d&#8217;Azur in October 2010, I looked at a couple of titanium frames with thoughts of upgrading my &#8216;hardtail&#8217; Lapierre Pro Race : <strong>why </strong>?</p>
<p>The Rocky Mountain :  I still really haven&#8217;t found any other &#8216;full susser&#8217; bike that is as good as, or without going overboard with the wallet, so for the moment that will probably stay my full susser for yet another year to come.</p>
<p>The Lapierre I&#8217;m more than happy with but as usual I have itchy fingers to build or modify my bikes with the new year coming, and more the Lapierre than the Rocky.</p>
<p>During the Roc I had looked at the Sobre Ti frame, which is a very nice and not to expensive, about 1200€ but its fitted for 120mm forks, and I&#8217;m running 100mm and don&#8217;t feel the need to run more than 100mm.</p>
<p>I also looked some other frames such as the Skyde, but at around the 1800€ mark, this was just to expensive.</p>
<p>This week while I was looking at the on-one.co.uk site as I was almost ready to order the Pompino frame that for my new singlespeed <a href="http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/new-singlespeed/" target="_blank">http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/new-singlespeed/</a> when I saw a promo for a Ti frame from the company Van Nicholas, 43% reduction from about 1520 € down to 880€. Frame version 2010, that&#8217;s why is was going cheap as the 2011 version is slightly different.</p>
<p>The model Van Nicholas Tuareg Frame was to be good to be true, a full XC frame, almost identical sizing as my Pro Race 300, I checked with friends the name is known in the Ti bike frame building industry, its made in China (as so many framers these days, including recently built Rocky Mountain) which is a shame, but boy what a beauty it is :</p>
<p>Certain parts on the frame is just a work of art &#8230; you can see the quality of the welding and metal work in the pictures below</p>

<p>If all goes well everything all except the BB and the Ahead set from the Lapierre will fit, the BB I have a brand new spare XTR lying around, so that&#8217;s no problem, the rest should be good, I will just change the stem from a 100mm to a 90mm as the Tuareg is a tiny bit longer. and I need to buy a new Ahead set.</p>
<p>So I&#8217;m waiting for the delivery so that I can start working on it, this plus a new singlespeed that I building up, boy am I busy &#8230;&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Update</strong> : Received the frame today 07/12/2010, boy is it nice, time to get it home and start work on it, stripping the Lapierre and building it up, nearly all XTR pieces. Am going to order the Van Nicholas Ti seat post today, I&#8217;ve ordered a Deus 90mm stem rather than the 100mm from the Lapierre, Now need some seriously sexy wheels to go with it rather than the XT&#8217;s, am thinking about some American Classics MTB 26, or some ZTR NoTubes Crest rims on Hope pro II hubs, but not sure yet.</p>

<p><strong>Wheels </strong>: These have arrived, I finally decided on ZTR Crest rims on Hope Pro hubs, need to fit them with Stan&#8217;s no tube tape and some tubeless ready tyres, these wheels are very light, the back weighs in at 840 gms and the front at 720  gms, after riding these wheels, one thing I noticed, in undoing the plastic valve cap,  (I wanted to adjust the tyre pressure) the valve core stayed with the cap, instant deflation, so you have to be careful with these valves, when unscrewing the valve cap, I think I&#8217;ll not bothering fitting caps.</p>

<p><strong>Fork :</strong> A brand new grey Fox 32 RLC Fit 100mm has arrived, the grey version goes just perfectly with the Ti colour.</p>
<p><strong>Tyres_1 :</strong> I&#8217;ve finally received the Stans No Tubes rim tape so I tried fitting  fitting a Maxis Larsen tubeless (my favourite tire) and a Nobby Nics Tubeless to the above wheels with no success or rather very difficult as they were both a pain in the ass to fit, the Nobby Ni&#8217;s even blew of the rim in the middle of the night splattering white latex liquid everywhere.</p>
<p><strong>Tyres_2</strong> : Have received Swalbes tubeless ready tires, these were a different matter to the tubless tyres, both fitted nice and easily, just like a tubeless tyre en a tubeless rim, both &#8216;popped correctly&#8217; when pumping them up. Nobby Nics, tubeless ready version DD 590 gms, Racing Ralph, Tubeless ready version DD 585 gms <strong>Update </strong>: better weather now, I changed tyres to a Rocket Ron 2.25 front and an Racing Rralph 2.25 rear, version DD, both Tubeless ready, saved even more weight with the RR front <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><strong>Brakes :</strong> I&#8217;ve bought and fitted Hope Tech X2 brakes, these are rather sexy, machined CNC alu, with braided hoses, instead of plastic ones, 6mm diameter rather than the standard 5mm. this actually created a slight problem, the TI frame has for me one design error, the brakes lugs are not cut, in other words you have to thread the hoses rather than ty-rapping it, (this also means that I had to take the brakes apart to thread the hoses) as the lugs internal diameter is 5mm ish, I was unable to tread the hoses as they are to large, so I got out the Dremel, cut the lugs so that I could open them slightly and thread the hose. Both rotors are the floating Hope Saw rotors.</p>
<p>Now I have braided hoses that are light grey in colour and brakes that look and feel really nice, also unlike the Shimano brakes, I was able to shorten the hoses without having to purge the brakes, nice, very nice indeed.</p>
<p><strong>Shifters :</strong> I&#8217;ve dropped the Shimano Dual Control and gone back to &#8216;normal&#8217; shifters as one day I&#8217;ll go to a 10 speed set up, and Dual Controls don&#8217;t work with 10 speed setups, shame as I&#8217;ve used these for a long time, in fact they are still on my Rocky Mountain setup for the moment. I&#8217;ve fitted Hope matchmaker brackets to fit the shifters directly on the brakes, making the handlebars less cluttered.</p>

<p><strong>Remark </strong>: all the threads on this frame, the BB or for fixing the back derailleur are very clean, the BB I was able the screw both sides fully in by hand. I&#8217;ve built a few bikes in my time, these have to be the cleanest threads that I&#8217;ve seen yet.</p>
<p><strong>Update : </strong>11 February 2011, did a 40km ride, home to work and back again, the Van Nicholas is the same size as my Lapierre Pro Race 300, and apart from the brakes and the wheels the rest is an all XTR setup, it rode quite differently, it absorbs more vibrations than the Lapierre Alu frame, as it was the first outing on it, I took it slowly, stopping to adjust brakes, saddle hight etc, but it does ride more comfortable, will be able to test it better in the next couple of weeks.</p>
<p>I managed to get two more rides done this weekend. I  have one problem the seat stem keeps slipping down, no matter how I tighten the Hope seat clamp. So I&#8217;ve ordered the Van Nicholas Ti seat clamp and just in case I&#8217;ve ordered a Race Face carbon seat stem (also lighter than the Ti post), both should arrive soon and one or both of the options should solve this problem. <strong>Update</strong> : The Ti seat clamp arrived, even with it fitted the seat post still kept slipping when riding, and no much how I tightened it, So I changed it for a Race Face Next carbon SL, the problem went away, the seat post no longer slips down, also as I changed the saddle to a Selle Italia SLR which is lighter than the Flite, the bike now weighs in at 10.45kgs (I&#8217;m going to send the seat post back to Van Nicholas, as I believe that it must be slightly undersized)</p>
<p>Apart from that all is fine, its lighter than the Lapierre, it&#8217;s fast, and at the same time more &#8216;supple&#8217;, I&#8217;m having a little problem adapting to shifters, I&#8217;ve been riding Dual Controls to long &#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Update </strong>: Mi Avril, between the Singlespeed and the Van Nicholas, I have clocked up over 1300 km so far, its going to be a good year.</p>
<p>All off road riding has been done on the this bike (The Rocky is sitting in the garage ..) I&#8217;m riding faster and feeling better.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve just order and awaiting some new pedals, The new XTR M980 as the Time pedals are rather used and I&#8217;d like to try the new XTR&#8217;s to see what they are like. <strong>Update</strong> : pedals arrived and fitted, nice, the shoes sit better on them and there is less float, I feel the difference in the back leg coming up with the pedal stroke, clipping in is not quite as good, but this should get better as the shoes wear in to the pedals, unclipping is fine, need to adjust it though to make it a little harder, this is easily done with a allen key.</p>
<p><strong>Update 08/08/2011 : </strong>I&#8217;ve decided to go 2 * 10, the XTR crank set has already arrived 28/40, and the rest has been ordered, if all goes well I can try it next weekend, I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;m going to have &#8216;fun&#8230;.&#8217; on the hills  and that I going to miss my 22 / 32 but hell, why not.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;"><strong><strong><a href="http://minty95.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/van-nicholas-avec-pedals-xtr.jpg" target="_blank"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1383 aligncenter" style="margin-top:5px;margin-bottom:5px;border-color:black;border-style:solid;border-width:5px;" title="Van Nicholas avec pedals XTR" src="http://minty95.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/van-nicholas-avec-pedals-xtr.jpg?w=300&#038;h=225" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a>Update : </strong></strong>When its finished its never finished, My crank set was becoming worn and was starting to have problems with chain suck, So rather than just changing the crank set or rings I decided to go for a 2 * 10 set up, I bought a XTR 28/40 XTR crankset up, with a XTR front dérailleur, XT back dérailleur and XT Cassette 11/36 (need the big 36 to go with the 28 ring ) and some nice new XTR shifters (note : I had to take of the Hope matchmakers and the won&#8217;t fit the 10 speed shifters)</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Problem straight away, when fitting the cranks I came up against the famous Q Factor (which I&#8217;d never heard of before), the Q Factor means how close the crank set will be to the frame and the cranks were only about 1mm from the back stay, this was not good, as I could see that under pressure the crank could touch the stay and damage it.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">I found out that the Q factor for the XTR Trail version had an extra 3 mm on it (69mm against 66mm), the same Q factor as the 9 speed XTR but as I had already bought this one and didn&#8217;t want the trail version I decided to do some DIY  on the crank and f**k the guarantee. It seem OK so maybe Shimano could take note and modify their cranks as I&#8217;ve seen on the forum, other people coming up with the problem)</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">So what I did is grind about 2mm from the back of the crank when it was nearest to the back stay, 2 mm less (thickness) and for about 15mm long where the axle of the pedal is screwed in, I&#8217;m sure that this will not affect the crank strength as they are so thick anyway, you can see for yourselves with the photos, I know have a clearance that is OK I can even fit a chain stay protector on without it being touched by the crank.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">For info I&#8217;ve fitted a horrible XT 11/36 cassette, it&#8217;s so big (I&#8217;ve always used a 11/32, so the 11/36 seems so big &#8230; most of my friends run a 11/34 but not me &#8230;&#8230;) but I will need the 36 as with the 28 front  ring its going to be hard work on the hills, before I was running a 22/32/42 crankset and now  it&#8217;s  a 28/40, this means that the 28/36 will give me the equivalent of a 22/28 (before it was 22/32) so I missing a couple of pignons, I just hope that I can hack it, otherwise I&#8217;ll be walking more and more on the steep sections. <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>I have been enjoying the Langster singlespeed for the last eight months or so, either riding to and fro to work or riding the country lanes around the village where I live.</p>
<p>With many rides and a little over 1386  kms on the Specialized Langster, I like the simplicity of this bike, especially as I&#8217;m used to my fully equipped MTBs, this is just the opposite, nothing to do except oil the chain from time to time.</p>
<p>In the winter season I ride a little less than usual, I&#8217;ll be 54 at the end of 2011, age make me lazy especially  when its wet, cold, windy etc.  so jumping on a singlespeed is a lttle easier than riding mountain bikes especially as when I get home a quick wash and the bike&#8217;s ready again, with a MTB, I have to wash of the mud including myself,  re grease eveything, all that takes a little longer.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m now starting to build up my next Singlespeed from scratch, it&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve done on most of my MTBs so it should be easy, except I&#8217;m not used to road components, the makes, the models, I&#8217;m used to Shimano XTR, XT for exemple, and these don&#8217;t exist on Singlespeed bikes, rather Sugino and such&#8230;</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve spent and spending  a lot of time on singlespeed forums, certain are really active, such as <a href="http://www.lfgss.com/" target="_blank">http://www.lfgss.com/</a> getting advice and reading up on what to buy.</p>
<p><span style="color:#000080;"><strong><span style="color:#ff6600;">Frame &amp; forks :</span></strong><br />
</span><span style="font-weight:normal;">What I don&#8217;t like in the Singlespeed world is the frame looks, the anti sloping, track style is just something that is not me, the straight frame is Ok BUT I want a sloping frame, I&#8217;ve been around MTBs to long. I&#8217;ve found a frame and fork called Pompino, it&#8217;s a little on the heavy side but its cheap and quite sexy, strange thing about it that it takes old school cantilever V style brakes. <a href="http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROOP/on-one-pompino-frame" target="_blank">http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROOP/on-one-pompino-frame</a> </span></p>

<span style="color:#993300;"><strong>Stem</strong></span> : Race Face Deus : same as on all my frames 100mm long<br />
<span style="color:#993300;"><strong>Seat Pos</strong>t :</span> Race Face Next SL : 300mm long, carbon version, again the same on all my bikes<br />
<span style="color:#993300;"><strong>Saddle  </strong></span>: Selle Italia Flite with Ti rails.<span style="color:#993300;"><strong>Brakes </strong></span>: Avid Shorty 4<br />

<span style="color:#800000;"><strong>BB and Cranks</strong> : </span>For the moment I&#8217;m running the cranks from the Langster as the Sugino 75 are so expensive, even though I have the BB sitting on a shelf waiting untill I get the cranks.<br />
<span style="color:#800000;"><strong>Freewheel :</strong> </span>For the moment, the standard one that was on the Langster, A White Industries Eno freewheel to come later<br />
<span style="color:#800000;"><strong>Pedals </strong>: </span>Time Atac carbon.</p>

<p><strong>Update November 2011 :</strong> I&#8217;ve now done over 1260 kms in less than 8 months with this bike, the first ride was in March 2011, so far so good, I&#8217;ve changed nothing, a couple of long rides of over 90km in one go with it, it&#8217;s just fine, its fun what you can do with a singlespeed <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>I mostly use it for saturday training runs, when its to muddy to get out the MTB or for getting to  work , which is only a 18km ride in each direction.</p>

<p>Cette année, j&#8217;ai carrément pris 10 jours de vacances pour le faire, car en plus de quelques jours de VTT, j&#8217;avais prévu quelques jours de vacances avec ma femme chez ma belle famille à Golf Juan.</p>
<p><strong>Vendredi </strong>1er octobre, voilà la vue de la terrasse de la belle famille à l&#8217;heure de déjeuner.</p>

<p><strong>Samedi </strong>matin, il fait frais mais très beau, pendant à Paris, il fait froid et il pleut, avec un déjeuner prévu chez ma belle soeur et beau frère, bonne bouffe assurée, surtout qu’elle allait faire les raviolis frais niçois avec la daube, rien à voir avec les soi-disant raviolis frais qu’on achète au supermarché.</p>

<p><strong>Dimanche</strong>, ma femme va prendre le train pour remonter à Paris, l&#8217;après-midi, je vais changer la cassette, la chaîne saute sur les 3 derniers pignons, ça m&#8217;avait gêné pendant &#8220;la gamelle&#8221;, cette fois-ci il faut que ça marche correctement, puis je vais en profiter pour ajouter un adapteur 160 mm à 180 mm pour le frein avant et remettre mon ancien disque de 180 mm.</p>
<h4><span style="color:#ff6600;"><em><strong>Et maintenant la partie VTT <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </strong></em></span></h4>
<p><strong>Lundi </strong>: avec un  démarrage un peu tardif vers 10:30. Comme pour les années précédentes, je me suis garé près de la base où le Roc aura lieu, pour faire le parcours de 40 km. Le début était comme l&#8217;année précédente, quelques kilomètres sur la route puis c&#8217;est direct dans les collines, sauf cette année les premières 6 km sont presque que de la montée au lieu de 3 l&#8217;année dernière.</p>
<p>J&#8217;ai raté la fin de parcours de 40 km,  le fléchage n&#8217;était pas encore terminé et n&#8217;était pas partout, je me suis trouvé sur la route à St Aygulf, enfin, pas très important, les derniers 5 km j&#8217;ai fait sur la route.</p>
<p>Au total 45km, la plupart sous un déluge de pluie, et oui même ici il ne fait pas toujours beau.</p>

<p><strong>Mardi </strong>: il fait beau à nouveau, le terrain était déjà sec, presque partout, c&#8217;est dingue, il avait plu,  tout l&#8217;après-midi hier et pendant toute la soirée jusqu&#8217;à l’environ 22 heures, et à 11h le matin, sauf quelques flaques d&#8217;eau le terrain était sec, mais sans la poussière habituelle, tant mieux.</p>
<p>Cette fois-ci j&#8217;avais décide de faire le parcours noir de 55 km, le départ est toujours le même pour environ 15 km.  Il avait beaucoup du vent, et certaines flèches étaient tombés par terre ou carrément parti avec le vent, donc malheureusement je me suis trompé de chemin, j&#8217;ai fait une boucle, arrivent au même endroit,  donc après 37 km et avec déjà 1000 m de dénivelé me trouvent sur la route du camping, je me suis arrêté, pour aller à la piscine et le hammam, puis un bain du soleil pendant 30 minutes, le bonheur, surtout à Paris il faussais froid et il pleuvait encore.</p>
<p>Demain, mercredi les copains arrivent, encore du vélo prévu.</p>
<p><strong>Mecredi </strong>: avec les copains nous avons re fait le parcours de 40 km, les copains, tous plus jeunes que moi, entre 35 ans et 42 ans, donc avec un moyen de 15 ans de moins que moi, en plus tous 10 kilos de moins, ça fait mal, ils roulent vite, beaucoup plus vite que moi, ils m&#8217;en attendaient partout <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> , en haut des cotes puis en bas dans les descentes <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Enfin 40 km, en environ 3 h 30 avec 1000 m de dénivelé, une sortie bien fatigante avec surtout deux descentes bien techniques et quelques pentes bien raides, phew &#8230;</p>

<p><strong>Jeudi </strong>: pas de vélo, un peu de repos avec le salon du Roc, puis encore la piscine et hammam <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  puis demain, vendredi la course &#8216;Masters Roc&#8217;, ça va speedy.</p>
<p><strong>Vendredi </strong>: Quel bonheur, le temps légèrement voilé, donc pas aussi chaud qu’hier, nous étions dans le 2éme vague de départ avec un départ à 10h 40, le départ était assez rapide, a environ 4 km un single impossible à monter et, avec un gros bouchon pendant 10mins, puis les mêmes chemins que j&#8217;avais faits lundi et mercredi, super, encore des descentes rapides et techniques, les grosses pentes, peu de Singletrack, mais avec autant de monde c&#8217;est normal, environ 1500 coureurs que pour le Roc Master, une très belle journée, 43 km avec 1000 de dénivelés avec un temps de 3h  05 me donnant 503 places au scratch et 296 places dans ma catégorie. Je ne suis pas un vrai coureur, ces classements me conviennent parfaitement, même s’ils ne sont pas extraordinaires. Génial. Demain 48 km, la &#8216;rando noire&#8217;</p>

<p><strong>Samedi </strong>: et nous voilà, la dernière journée du VTT, nous avons fait le parcours &#8216;rando noire&#8217; un parcours de 48 km avec environ 1500 m de dénivelé. Encore un parcours génial, comme les autres, encore les belles pentes et des descentes, deux ou trois très techniques, nous l&#8217;avons roulé tous ensemble tout le long, et nous l&#8217;avons faite en 3 h 44, notre moyenne était d&#8217;environ 14.5, aussi rapide que vendredi, mais avec 5 km de plus et environ 1300m de dénivelés au total.</p>

<p>La semaine était génial, du beau temps  partout sauf le lundi, le parcours très bien organise, il y a environ 20 000 compétiteurs pour le Roc d&#8217;Azur 2010, paraît-il environ 150 000 visiteurs à Fréjus, tout est bien, tous les courses et les parcours sont bien, avec un fléchage parfait, les ravitos corrects, les pompiers à tous les endroits dangereux (puis il y en a &#8230;), comme les années précédentes,  il n&#8217;a aucune critique à faire. Nous allons rapidement inscrire pour l&#8217;année suivante</p>
<p>Cette semaine, pour moi, marque la fin de la cette saison VTT, je vais bien sûr continuer à rouler, mais hiver approche, donc moins de sorties prévues et parfois le dimanche matin sous la couette au chaud &#8230;. <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Je ne suis pas français et je n&#8217;ai pas fait le français à l&#8217;école non plus, donc comme pour mes autres postes, les corrections de français sont les bienvenues, mettez-les en commentaires (Leave a reponse)</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>L&#8217;année dernière j&#8217;avais fait La Gamelle Trophy à Sillé le Gillaume, et le parcours m&#8217;avait bien plu. Donc j&#8217;avais attendu la version 2010 avec beaucoup impatience.</p>
<p>Quelle déception, cette année les parcours de 20 km et 35 km étaient mélangés avec le parcours de 50 km, ceci a créé les bouchons partout, la moindre grimpette, même les singles, parfois un peu techniques, voire pas de tout, les gens mettent les pieds à terre ou roulent à 2 à l&#8217;heure.</p>
<p>L&#8217;année dernière c&#8217;était la même chose, mais nettement moins, cette année c&#8217;était beaucoup plus.</p>
<p>Il avait tellement de monde que des amis n&#8217;ont pas pu finir la dernière partie du parcours à cause de la course VTT qui avait commencé trop tôt, ne donnant pas le temps pour certains à finir les parcours de 50km et ils n&#8217;avaient pas le droit de finir les derniers quelques centaines de mètres correctement.</p>
<p>Pourtant nous ne sommes pas partis en retard, environ 8 h 25, difficile de partir plus tôt, car la récupération de dossard n&#8217;était qu’à partir de 7 h 45, et il fallait au moins 15 mins voire plus pour les récupérer.</p>
<p>La seule bonne note est que comme l&#8217;année dernière le parcours était génial, technique, dur, avec les belles grimpettes, les singles parfois super techniques avec les racines en travers, parfois humides donc bien glissants. Des descentes bien techniques, au moins deux que j&#8217;ai descendues à pied. Le pied <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Il y avait trois ravitos, les deux premiers, avec les barres, oranges, chocolat et boissons etc,  c&#8217;était correct. La dernière, il y avait tellement de monde devant que je ne me suis même pas arrêté, par contre il fallait passer à pied, il n&#8217;y avait plus de passage.</p>
<p>Si l’organisateur pouvait faire en sorts que les randonneurs de circuits 20km 35km puissent soit emprunter les parcours différents, soit démarrer plus tard que le parcours de 50km, La Gamelle Trophy serait réellement génial. Je n&#8217;ai rien contre les randonneurs en VTT, mais sur certains circuits ils ne sont pas faits pour être mélangés, les personnes qui n&#8217;ont jamais ou rarement roulé sur un VTT et en plus souvent elles étaient sur les VTT souvent bas de gamme ou de supermarché, en baskets et T’Shirt. Elles ne doivent pas se trouver avec les VTTistes qui sont habitués à rouler vite et /ou technique.</p>
<p>Puis la course de VTT a démarré trop tôt, gênant les retardataires des deux parcours et sans doute les coureurs ont du être gênés par les gens qui terminent leur balade.</p>
<p>Nous avons eu un T’Shirt cette année, mais pas de sandwiches ou à manger à la fin, seulement à boire, encore dommage surtout vu le coût de 16€, la Noiséenne, la semaine dernière a coûté nettement moins cher, 6€ avec un vrai repas à la fin.</p>
<p>Nous étions 8 à la faire cette année, 5 parmi nous ne la feront pas en 2011 à cause de ces problèmes. Dommage  le parcours est sur www.everytrail.com, <a href="http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=827141" target="_blank">http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=827141</a> attention certaines parties de ce parcours ne sont sans doute ouvertes au public que pendant La Gamelle Trophy.</p>
<p>Comme pour mes autres postes, les corrections de français sont les bienvenues.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Avec un dimanche légèrement frais, à peine 4°, me voilà à nouveau avec mes amis habituelle, pour faire le rando VTT de 60km de Noissy sur Oise.</p>
<p>Je l&#8217;avais fait l&#8217;année dernière et je l&#8217;avais bien apprécié, même si le départ était trop roulant et simpliste. <a href="http://www.everytrail.com/tell_story.php?trip_id=394289" target="_blank">http://www.everytrail.com/tell_story.php?trip_id=394289</a></p>
<p>Cette année, le parcours a démarré directement par un Singletrack et pendant les 60km suivants c&#8217;était que les Singletracks ou le les chemins pas trop larges. Nous l&#8217;avons eu que une seule portion de route pendant 200 mètres.</p>
<p>Il n&#8217;avait pas trop des difficultés, une belle descente,  bien technique, géniale. Bien entendu d&#8217;autres décentes, moins techniques, mais certaines, pas mal comment même.</p>
<p>Quelques belles grimpettes, deux ou trois biens raides. Une je l&#8217;ai fait à pied, l&#8217;honte, mais j’étais fatigué&#8230;</p>
<p>La meilleure partie de ce parcours était les Singletracks, beaucoup, la plupart en serpentine dans la forêt. A faufiler entre les arbres avec les relances non-stop. Comme il y a quelques semaines à St-Germain en Laye. Du pur cross country, ce que je préfère le plus.</p>
<p>Deux ravitos, le premier à 20, le deuxième à 40, puis à la fin un vrai repas, des, chips, de la viande, du pain, du fromage, des fruits et bien entendu de la boisson, coca, bière, même du vin &#8230;. Aux bords de l’Oise en plus sous le soleil, un régal et tout ça pour 7 euros.</p>
<p>Une ballade VTT très bien organisé, bien fléché et très bien pensé.</p>

<p>I was in London in September 2010, I was surprised by the amount of bikes on the road and especially singlespeed bikes, they were everywhere, so clean, so simplistic.</p>
<p>I have been riding mountain bikes for the last 15 years or so and will hopefully be riding them for more years to come (I&#8217;ll be 53 in December 10) also there is no other biking style that will change this.</p>
<p>But those bikes with skinny wheels, no suspension, no gears, no nothing &#8230; so different, so &#8220;oldy woldy&#8221;. Like listening to vinyls when I have the same disc on a CD, (I still buy and listen to LPs even when I&#8217;ve got the CD &#8230;) also I had read that singlepeed riding is great for strengthening thigh muscles, even more so than MTB riding, so another reason to buy one.</p>
<p>I had seen a Specialized Langster in a CycleSurgery shop in London which I found cheapish, and rather sexy, once back in Paris I found the same bike <a href="http://www.franscoop.com/index.php?w_key=langster&amp;w_goto=product_list&amp;flag=search" target="_blank">http://www.franscoop.com/index.php?w_key=langster&amp;w_goto=product_list&amp;flag=search</a>, so I popped down to the bike shop and bought one, size 54cm white frame, red stickers, the 2011 model. I think I bought the right size, I took the 54 though I was a little unsure between the 54cm or 56cm, only time will tell. (in MTBs I ride 18-inch) I&#8217;m 1.78m tall.</p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t rode a road bike in over 35 years, and even then it had gears, so I had no idea what I was getting into or what would it would be like.</p>
<p>The Langster is fitted with a 42 tooth front chainring and a 16 tooth back cog. So as soon as I got the bike home, I fitted some Time Atac pedals (MTB version as use them on my MTB bikes) and went out for my first ride.</p>
<p>Oh boy, was it weird, the position on the bike is so different, very small drop racing handlebars (they are like half the width of my carbon handlebars on my bikes) with the brakes on the top and in the middle near the stem, oh how strange it felt, also you feel all the deformations in the road, the bumps, the holes, gravel, I had forgotten what it was like, being used to a front suspension fork, also for the moment I am unable to lift the wheel of the ground to go up a kerb or such, with the position being so different.</p>
<p>I was really worried about not being able to ride up hills with only one gear (though I am fairly fit), but coming out of my village the first small hill no problem, so I went to see friend, 13km away, a couple of hills, though nothing really big and all went well, so 26km later and, feeling quite chuffed I arrived back home, though its going to take time to get used to the brakes, frame and of course 1 gear.</p>
<p>The back wheel actually has two cogs, one on either side (a flip-flop wheel), one free wheel on the chain side when buying the bike and the other side is a fixed wheel, the fixed cog means that the pedals turns all the time and you cannot freewheel, this option I saw many riders using in London with only a front brake and some with no brakes at all, just back pedaling to stop them. This, I&#8217;m not ready to try yet, as I&#8217;m not that good at biking, or rather not that crazy, so for the moment I&#8217;ll stick to the free wheel option.</p>
<p>So first ride,to a friend&#8217;s house about 30km, not to bad, and a real change from my MTBing, will add more thoughts when I take out the bike again, it will take some time to get used to the frame, riding position, more so the one fixed gear.</p>
<p>A second ride yesterday to another biking to a friend&#8217;s house, out in the country, a 28km return ride, no problems, a couple of small hills, again no problems, about 225m dénivilé up and down in all.</p>
<p>This morning (Friday) a home to work ride, 20km in total each way, one major hill starting from a 90° turn, so no way of getting speed to get up it, so the first 50 meters had to walk up it, but I knew this would be so, as it must be a 20% / 25%  ascent for the first 50 metres, after that the rest was OK . Went home by a slightly longer route, 10km with a friend trying to follow on his MTB, he&#8217;s fitter and younger than me, but couldn&#8217;t keep up with me, with the 27in skinny wheels, this bikes flies along and then another 10km  on my own.</p>
<p>So 3 days with the bike, 100km so far, quite pleased with it. Now for a break, have a weekend of real biking on my Rocky Mountain to be done <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Am getting used to the small handlebars, changed the saddle from a Brooks copy to a SDG &#8216;Bel Air RL&#8217; smaller and sexier and just as comfortable. I will have to change the brakes, they are pretty crap and I&#8217;m used to real stopping power with my XTR disc brakes on the other bikes, so will change these soon.</p>
<p>This Sunday did a 60km VTT outing at Noisy sur Oise, near my home, about 50km from Paris. Oh boy did it feel weird for the first couple of kms, the handlebars felt SO large, they are only 620mm but in comparison with the Langster that&#8217;s huge, everything just felt different, but so good,  I love suspension &#8230;. and off-road riding.</p>
<p>Yet another 30km tonight, Monday, 30km in a hour and 6 mins on the country roads around my village. was really good, nice and warm.</p>
<p>Anyway won&#8217;t have much time this week as away for the next three weekends , Got the Gamel Trophy and Le Roc d&#8217;Azur coming up, two of the best MTB events of the year.</p>
<p><span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong>Update </strong></span>: Have ordered some Shimano 105 BR5600 calipers to replace the Tektro ones, will add details when received and put on the bike. Update : brakes arrived and fitted, better than the original ones, but still not what I&#8217;d like, need to re adjust them and let the pads bed in.</p>
<p>Got another two rides done this week, to work and back home, 42km each time, last week&#8217;s hill that I couldn&#8217;t get up, did it this time, though at about 3km an hour &#8230;, and then the next time I tried it I actually managed to dislodge the back wheel, luckily I had two 15mm spanners and so re centered the wheel and tightened the nuts more, now I know why there are no quick releases on singlespeed back wheels.</p>
<p>Love the ride, it flies on flat roads, and the same rides are getting quicker each time, as starting to get used to the fell of it, but am still unable or rather not trying to lift the wheels to jump up a kerb or such, need more time with it.</p>
<p><span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong>Update : </strong></span>have ordered a Profile Design Airwing Base Bar + Profile Design Quick Stop 2 Brake Levers, want to play with different set-ups, should receive them in a week  or so.</p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>Saturday 24th Octobe</strong>r : </span>I went for a test ride in the fixed wheel position, Oh boy is this weird, just starting with the pedals always turning puts you off, coming out of my lane onto the road it goes down hill. Scared the shit out me, being fixed to pedals that forces your legs to turn, I jumped on the brakes to slow myself down (my heart at the same time), leveling of gave me some time to ride a little slower and suss out what to do, over 15 years in the saddle with a free wheel then riding a fixedwheel is like walking on the moon, just so weird. So anyway tried slowing the bike down using my legs rather than the brakes, you can&#8217;t pedal backwards as many seem to think, you actually &#8216;fight&#8217; the forward action using your thighs, so so strange. Anyway did a 5km trip &#8230; came home with my thighs feeling ready to burst &#8230; To be honest this is not for me or at least not yet, I&#8217;m to used to be able to stop pedaling or pedaling backwards when resting my legs.</p>
<p><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>Sunday 25th</strong> : Rode a 38km ride around my village, with over 425m dénevilé (positive / negative), managed to ride with some roadies and leave them behind, great ride, the singlespeed is great, hard on the legs but every ride just seems to get better end easier.</span></p>
<p>For info I have noticed that my average speed on the flat is around the 32km per hour mark, more than that and I&#8217;m just spinning to fast, this is an easy speed and not tiring.</p>

<p>Fitted with SDG Bel Air RL Ti saddle, Time Atac Carbon pedals, Shimano 105 BR5600 calipers, all the rest are the original parts.</p>
<p>Have just weighed the Langster it comes in at about 10.4kilos, heavier than I thought.</p>
<p><span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong>TIP </strong></span>: I wanted to adjust  the chain tension : I wasn&#8217;t sure how to get the chain tension right but found / read a quite clever tip, I rolled up an old towel and placed it between the tire and the back downward stem, turning the wheel gets the towel trapped and pushes the wheel back, worked just fine.</p>
<p>Update : Have just fitted a <strong>DMR Chain Tug Chain Tensioner</strong> helping to keep the chain tension right and the wheel straight and correctly aligned  in the frame. <strong>Update</strong>, running the freewheel on the new wheels (see below) couldn&#8217;t fit these correctly, so for the moment they are of the bike. will try again when I receive the new freewheel (lost in the post apparently &#8230; )</p>

<p><span style="color:#ff9900;"><strong><span style="color:#ff6600;">Update </span>: </strong></span>November 2010 : Have finally got around to adding the new handlebars and brakes : Profile design quick stop brake levers and a Profile design Airwing base bar  : Oh so much better, more comfortable for riding with a far better position, the brake levers are better than the original one and so with the Shimano 105 calipers have good braking at last. Also very important I gained about 440 grams in changing the bars as the original ones weigh in at over 660 grams and the new one only 230 grams</p>

<p>Did a nice little ride this morning Sunday 01/10 using the new bars, 44 km with over 550m  dénevilé (positive / negative), was great, even found a Geocache  in the town of Chaumont en Vexin, am now up to 380 km with the Langster, still pleased with it.</p>
<p>Two rides this weekend Saturday 20/11/2010 68 km with over 740m  &#8217;dénevilé&#8217; (positive / negative), and Sunday 52 km with 671m &#8216; dénevilé&#8217; but in the rain, no sun today. 120km in two days not bad, legs are feeling good <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Yesterday&#8217;s Sunday ride was in the rain, need to get some new warmer clothes more suited to riding on the road than off-road riding, it gets colder quicker on the road as you&#8217;re not sheltered by the forest, but I refuse to dress like a roadie, I&#8217;m wearing mountain bike clothes from my Met MTB helmet down to my Sidi Dragon shoes. I love looking not quite right and getting some weird looks sometimes.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#ff6600;">27 th-28 th /11/2010</span></strong> Two more rides this weekend, only 30km Saturday, had two punctures, the second one due to not finding the thorn in the tyre, took time to fix them, I&#8217;d forgotten how to use tyre spoons especially on road tyres, I&#8217;ve been around tubeless MTB tyres for so long, they rarely puncture and you don&#8217;t need tools, had to go and buy some proper tyre spoons as the little plastic ones I had in my Camalbak, broke, I used &#8220;Park Tools super patch kit&#8221; to repair the punctures, they are just great, years ago when I first tried these, they were crap, now I&#8217;ve changed my mind <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Sunday 60km with friends that are both 10 and 15 years younger than me, both are  10 kilos less than me, both on road bikes with gears and minus 4° outside, a good but cold ride. It goes to show that a SS can be ridden over fairly long distances as a road bike, a great and fun alternative.</p>

<p><span style="color:#ff6600;">Update : I&#8217;ve started buying the parts for a new singlespeed that I&#8217;m going to build from scratch. I&#8217;m happy with the Langster but I want a different frame and better parts. It won&#8217;t make me a better cyclist this I know from experience. but its fun and most gratifying choosing and building up a bike, piece by piece  : the details can be found on  the page &#8220;New Singlespeed&#8221; <a href="http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/new-singlespeed/" target="_blank">http://minty95.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/new-singlespeed/</a></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#ff6600;"><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>Update December 2010 : </strong></span></span>Mavic Open Pro rims with Goldtec track hubs and ACI Alpina spokes, all black have been added to the bike, as I&#8217;ve put a hold on the new singlespeed while building the new Tuareg MTB. So for the moment I&#8217;m fitting these to the Langster, They are far more sexy that the original wheels, having a better braking area, better rims and better hubs, I had them made up choosing the rims, spokes and hubs myself,  also they are far lighter, the front wheel is 979 gms instead of 1049 gms and the back wheel 1002 gms instead of 1183 gms, in other words 251 gms lighter<span style="color:#ff6600;">, <span style="color:#000000;"><strong>that&#8217;s a lot of weight shaved off ! </strong>Have now done two rides, each 50km, the wheels feel more confortable, not really lighter as such, but I feel like I not riding on wooden wheels anymore.</span></span></p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#ff6600;"><span style="color:#000000;">Update : January 16th 2011</span></span></strong><span style="color:#ff6600;"><span style="color:#000000;"> : Two weeks into the new year and things are going good, with all the snow and rain that we had, MTBing is sadly still of the menu until the paths gets less muddy, so the Langster has been out most weekends, I&#8217;ve done five rides so far the longest being 85km, 323km total so far, that means an average of 64.6km per ride, legs are going to be good this year <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#ff6600;"><span style="color:#000000;">Also I&#8217;ve changed the handlebars and brakes again, the profile bars were to long, making me reach to far,  so I cut down the original bars and turned them upside down, as I couldn&#8217;t fit the Profile brakes I installed the original Tektro brakes until I can find some better ones.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Le parcours a démarré au lycée agricole de St-Germain.</p>
<p>Voilà un parcours que j&#8217;aime. Pour moi un parcours VTT quais parfait, du vrai VTT. Tout de suite, ce parcours commence avec les singletrack et les petits chemins, le temps étaient secs et ensoleillés, les chemins même poussiéreux. Au contraire de beaucoup de parcours VTT, comme ce de Coutances la semaine dernière, ceci était 80 % voir plutôt 90 % pure singletrack, deux petites portions de route d&#8217;environ 500 mètres seulement, aucun grand chemin roulant , une pure merveille.</p>
<p>Le fléchage était parfait (Coutances et autres organisations de VTT prendre note), avec les flèches agrafées aux arbres, bien visibles et souvent avant et après le changement de direction, deux petits bémols à deux endroits différents , aux endroits où il avait du passage des piétons ou randonneurs, comme pour Survilliers les flèches étaient arrachées, c&#8217;est dommage qu&#8217;il y ait des cons qui font tout pour emmerder les autres.</p>
<p>Pas de vraie technique, mais attention il faut avoir un certain niveau comment même.  Avec les singles parfois bien sinueux, il fallait faire attention, car parfois ça rouler vite, pas de grandes descentes, quelque montés, et deux ou nous les avons finis à pied. Peu de déniveler au total, nous sommes à St-Germain après tout ou il fait relativement plat, j&#8217;ai enregistré que 750 m sur mon Garmin, avec un temps de parcours 3 h, je l&#8217;ai fait avec et Oli et les copains du club VTT Montsoult-Baillet-Maffliers.</p>
<p>Un des meilleurs parcours de VTT dans la région, je dis chapeau aux organiseurs, pour info nous avons eu deux ravitos, à environ 20 km et 40 km, au même endroit d&#8217;ailleurs, astucieux, à faire arriver le 40 km au même endroit que le 20 km, plus facile à gérer, d&#8217;autre chose de bien, les tranches de salami, tout bête, mais cela change du saucisson habituel, et après un certain temps le salé est bien apprécié, cela change du sucré tout le temps.</p>

<p>Me voilà à nouveau avec Lolo pour faire une randonnée VTT. Cette fois-ci 85km avec 1200m de dénivelé.</p>
<p>En 2009 je l&#8217;avais déjà fait, mais seulement le parcours de 60km. Cette fois-ci j&#8217;avais décidé de faire le 85km.</p>
<p>Le parcours cette année comporte quelque tronçons identiques que l&#8217;année dernière, normale, en plus certaines étaient génial,  au départ pas mal de singles ou plutôt les chemins en terre entre les champs couverts par les haies, réellement superbes, on ne les trouve pas comme ça dans la région parisienne.</p>
<p>Après environ 40km, il en avait moins en moins  et plus en plus de route à faire, les petites, mais les routes comme même, mais je supopose que ce n&#8217;est pas évident à trouver que les singles pendant 85km, donc ce n&#8217;est pas un vrai critique.</p>
<p>Malheureusement comme l&#8217;année précédente le balisage était très limite, n&#8217;utilisent que la craie sur sol, il fallait faire très d&#8217;attention, car avec le passage des roues, le vent, la craie s&#8217;efface très vite, heureusement nous étions deux, car plus qu&#8217;une fois un de nous deux avait raté la flèche indiquons le changement de direction.</p>
<p>Il n&#8217;avait que 3 ravitos, la dernière était aux kilométrages 70km, beaucoup trop loin après le seconde, aux kilométrages 35km. Puis à la fin de parcours il ne rester qu&#8217;une assiette de chips à grignoter, c&#8217;est dommage qu’ils ne prévoient pas un peu plus pour les gens qui font les longs parcours, surtout que nous avons faite assez vite avec un moyen de 18,7km. Je sais que nous étions environ le 3e et 4e VTTistes à finir le parcours, autrement dit pour ceux qui sont arrivés plus tard, il n&#8217;a pas dû rester grand-chose.</p>
<p>Enfin un parcours bien agréable, et que je le referais avec plaisir, mais un ravito de plus pour le 85km, plus à manger à la fin et avec un meilleur balisage saura bien mieux.</p>
<p>Le temps était au rendez-vous, il a fait légerment frais et sec, il n&#8217;y a pas réellement des partis technique donc un parcours ouvert à tous.</p>
